Thank you for your interest in being represented by Photo Researchers. We represent a select group of photographers, illustrators and videographers specializing in the fields of science, technology, astronomy, medicine, nature, wildlife, lifestyle, and selected travel imagery. For exclusive representation, we work on a 50/50% commission basis with sales, based on collected revenue, paid quarterly. We also offer a non-exclusive arrangement based on a 60/40% split, with the photographer receiving 40% of revenues. Photo Researchers works with a large base of both editorial and commercial buyers. We distribute your images worldwide through our network of over 35 international agents. We market our collection through electronic and print catalogs, our website, email updates, dedicated direct mail pieces, Google ranking, and our renowned customer service.

We are currently looking primarily for new science and medical photographers and illustrators. If you would like to explore representation, please see the terms of our contract, (sample of contract) and contact us with the following information:

• 1. List subjects that are your specialty
• for travel and nature/wildlife note the locations and subjects you have covered.
• for science and medicine note the subjects and equipment used
• 2. Note media and formats used: digital, transparencies (35mm, medium, panoramic formats), color prints or flat art. Note: Photo Researchers provides images to our clients solely by digital means. If your collection includes transparencies or flat art, understand that you will ultimately need to provide us with digital versions, or have us scan your analog images for a fee.
• 3. Note the percentage that each media and format represents in your overall collection.
• 4. Note the approximate number of images you wish to market through us.
• 5. List your major clients and what percentage of your sales are to editorial vs. commercial customers.

When a portfolio review is requested, we will require you do the following:

Carefully select material that best represents the depth and the style of your collection. For travel, wildlife and lifestyle, we ask to review approximately 200 images. Lifestyle images must be no older than 2 years and travel no older than 5 years. For science, medical or astronomy, we ask to review approximately 100 images. Websites, CD-ROM, or DVD are all acceptable methods for submitting your portfolio, however if full-resolution images are not available to review, a final decision on representation cannot be made.

If you plan to have us edit your portfolio electronically, please see the attached guidelines for review and acceptance. (digital file submission standards) (Updated Feb. 1st, 2010)

You can also submit material in any professional transparency format, including 35mm to large format transparencies, flat art, and black & white prints, however, a $20 service fee will be deducted from your sales for any 35mm transparency, $25 for large format, B&W prints or flat art format that is placed on the agency's website.

If you plan to submit transparencies for review, we urge you to package and organize your work carefully for safety and expediency. Use a major carrier and insure your package (we will not be responsible for material lost in transit.) Never submit images in slide boxes or glass mounts. Transparencies, of any size, should be placed in acetate sheets. Similar subjects should be placed in close proximity for more efficient viewing by our editors. Captions should accompany groups of subject matter noting location, activity and other pertinent information. Make sure any material featuring people or property is clearly marked as to the availability of model/property releases. You will be asked to sign and return a waiver of liability which will be forwarded to you upon your request for a portfolio review. These Terms Governing Receipt , your return address information and postage must accompany your submission in order for it to be reviewed.
